Fire performance needs an outdoor area, the venue’s approval, and in some cases a permit; we confirm this with the property before it is included in your quote.

What to know before you book fire knife
What siva afi is
Siva afi is the Samoan fire knife dance. The performer spins a nifo oti, a hooked knife with both ends wrapped and lit, through twirls, throws, and body rolls. The fire was added to the traditional knife dance in 1946 by Samoan performer Freddie Letuli, and it has been the closing act of Polynesian shows in Hawaiʻi ever since.
Where it can happen
Outdoors only, on a surface that will not burn, with clear space around the performer and away from tents, foliage, and guests. The venue must approve it, and some properties and counties require a permit or a fire safety plan. Tell us the venue first; we check what is allowed before fire knife goes on the quote.
How it fits the show
Fire knife is usually the finale after hula and Tahitian drumming, three to eight minutes with one or more performers. It can also stand alone as a short act at a reception or a company dinner where a full show does not fit.
Safety
Our performers bring their own fuel, extinguishing gear, and a spotter. We set the performance area with the venue during setup and keep guests behind a marked line. Fire knife is never performed indoors or under a covered structure.

Can you do fire knife at a rental home?
Only with the owner’s written permission and a safe outdoor area. Some neighborhoods and associations do not allow open flame; ask the host before you count on it.
Do I need a permit?
Sometimes. It depends on the island, the county, and the property. We tell you what applies once we know the venue.
How many fire knife performers come?
One for most private events; two or more for larger productions. The quote lists the performers and the length of the act.
Can fire knife be booked without a full luau show?
Yes. A short fire knife act with a drummer is a common add-on for receptions and corporate dinners.
