The museum is similar to the Battleship Missouri Memorial in that it is in close proximity to the monument. One of just 15 World War II-era submarines surviving in the U.S., this historic submarine took part in nine World War II patrols and is now on display at the National Museum of the Pacific War. Now it serves as a walk-through exhibit in combination with a museum that has a variety of combat objects, including submarine bells, battle flags, and a Poseidon missile, among others. Cruise missiles, a torpedo, and an underwater rescue chamber are among the artifacts on display in the adjoining park, which also contains a collection of other items. Some past visitors expressed unhappiness with the amount of elbow room available within, but many others heart felt thanks for getting a firsthand sight of the claustrophobic conditions in which personnel were forced to live while stationed on the submarine. Others took use of the self-guided sound guides that were provided with the admission to the museum and the submarine tour. USS Bowfin is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (except on specific holidays).Although the submarine is only available until 4:30 p.m., keep in mind that luggage is not permitted inside either facility. For the convenience of storing goods on-site, a fee of $5 per bag will be charged. Admission to the museums $6 for adults and children, and tickets to the museum and submarine are $15 each, with kids under seven entering free of charge. In addition to the Battleship Missouri Memorial, there are extra tickets available that include access to the Battleship Missouri Memorial. Prices for senior people and members of the military are lower than for the general public. There is a four-year-old age restriction on children who wish to tour the submarine. Visitors can drive to the Arizona Memorial and park in one of the numerous free parking spaces available, take the Waikiki Purple Bus, or take bus lines 20 or 42 to the Arizona Memorial stop on Waikiki Beach, all of which are free of charge. On-site amenities include a gift store, a snack bar, vending machines, and restrooms, among other things. For more information, please visit the USS Bowfin website.
